MWR stands for Morale, Welfare and Recreation, which is a rather comprehensive system of leisure activities specifically designed for the typical American soldier and his family. Vacations are naturally the most common form of service often extended to American soldiers.

Often, the vacations will come in the form of discount tickets in luxury cruises and in airlines where a given soldier can get to see many different exciting locations all around the world.

When military personnel decide to enjoy short vacations by seeing various locations, they can easily step into the nearest MWR office in their area and ask for ITT services. Information, Tickets and Tours and is an essential aspect of the entire MWR function.

In a typical ITT set-up, soldiers will usually be given relevant information about certain locations where they intend to enjoy their vacations. The information will usually include tickets to either airlines or to shipping companies if the vacations are about luxury cruises.

Either way, when the tickets are purchased, they usually carry discounted rates. This is because the MWR services generally have several agreements with different airlines and even shipping lines that go on cruises to various locations.

As an additional MWR incentive, it is quite common for the MWR to also have connections with various hotels and lodging houses where military personnel seeking to avail of their benefits can be adequately accommodated. Again, the hotel accommodations are usually set at discounted rates as this constitutes an equally vital aspect of the entire MWR benefits system.

Among the more exciting packages recently offered to the American soldier is an extensive travel tour to Australia. The package included a five-night hotel stay in either a Melbourne or a Sydney-based three to four-star hotel with the rates set at $838. Also included in this particular package was a reduced plane ticket fare courtesy of Qantas Airways. The tickets, as per MWR specifications, involved a round-trip fare from either San Francisco or Los Angeles.

It should be noted, however, that the MWR can only be availed of by many military personnel when they are not on duty. As such, many vacations are often short. Nevertheless, the MWR is an exciting aspect in the life of a U.S. soldier and the benefits are actually available in all the key departments of the U.S. military.

Thus far, the Navy is considered by many as having the most comprehensive MWR benefits system in the entire military set up. This is because this system operates in practically every major American state where the Navy is known to have several existing facilities.

The discounted tickets and tours for soldiers' getaways is just one of the positive aspects of the MWR. The services this organization provides for military personnel are much needed outlets from a stressful career.
